Godess Amaterasu Coming Out of the Cave
[ Detail ] [ Description ] [ Condition ]
Description:

Goddess Amaterasu no Okami is the Sun deity and head of the Shinto Pantheon in the Japanese belief. She is considered to be a direct descendent of the creators of the universe and Japanese Emperors claim her to be their ancestor. According to a legend, she once closed herself in a cave, annoyed by the behaviour of her brother, the God of Wind Susano-o thus depriving the world of sunlight. No matter what the other Gods tried, she didn't want to come out. The Goddess Amano Uzume organised a dancing performance in front of the cave. Amaterasu was intrigued why all the other Gods were having so much fun and laughing and wanted to have a look at the dance herself. At the entrance of the cave, Amano Uzume had somebody hold a big mirror. The reflection of herself was so impressive that the goddess stepped out of the cave, in which moment the other gods got hold of her. The image is rich in design and detail depicting the classic moment the Goddess Amaterasu stepped out of the cave. She is depicted illuminating tremendous rays of light that spans across the three panels.
